Class 2 Newsletter

Year Two – Term Four Newsletter

Dear Parents/Carers,

Welcome back, hope you all had a fun filled half term! It is hard to believe we are in term 4 already!

I am very happy to be back with all of the children, I have missed them very much and they have given me such a lovely warm welcome back.

This term is history term and we will be learning about The Great Fire of London!  The children have had a very busy week finding out answers to the many questions they had and have really enjoyed the topic already. We will be going to Dover Museum on 17th March to take part in a Great Fire of London workshop where we will get the opportunity to take part in drama and handle artefacts.  We will be learning about this topic throughout our curriculum:

English – we will be creating our own fact files for our non-fiction writing, describing the setting using our senses, diary writing and recounts.  We are really focussing on reading in school and so our objective this term will be understanding of vocabulary and comprehension.  Please encourage your children to read as much as possible at home – I would love to hear about any books they have read alongside their school reading books.

Maths – during term four we will be exploring 2D and 3D shapes including their properties and symmetry.  We will also be learning about measurement and fractions as well as revisiting the skills we have already learnt in maths during year 2.  We continue to do mental maths every day and continue to count in 2s, 3s, 5s and 10s so please encourage your children to use times tables rock stars to support them with their learning.

Science – this term we will be focussing on plants – we will observe and describe how seeds and bulbs grow, understand the different parts of plants and trees and what their roles are and also learn about what plants need to survive and stay healthy.

Topic – within D&T, Art, Geography and History lessons we will be learning about the different aspects of The Great Fire of London and how London then differs from London today.  We will be making our own houses from 1666 using different materials and creating our own art using charcoal and colour mixing.  With so many interesting aspects to cover, it will be a fun-filled and engaging term!

P.E. – Monday and Wednesday are the Year 2 timetabled P.E. days this term. Please ensure that your child has the required kit.

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact the office and I can arrange to meet you.

Regards

Mrs Grassby
