Class 6

                                                                                                            September 2019

Dear Parents/Carers,

Welcome back to the new school year. I hope you all had a lovely summer and managed to make the most of the weather to get out and about and do some exciting things. It’s good to see all the children back and enthusiastic for the new term.

Our topic for the first term will be about World War II as 3rd September this year marks the 80th anniversary of the start of the war. We will be looking at the causes of the war and how it affected people at home. I hope this will be an interesting topic for the children to learn about.

I have reminded the children of the importance of practising their reading and their times tables as frequently as they can at home as these are vital basic skills needed all the time in so many areas of the curriculum. I will also send other homework home as and when they need to do it. They will have maths homework every night Monday – Thursday to keep their basic number skills up to scratch.

We will be having PE on Thursdays and Fridays this term, so the children need to make sure they have their PE kits (coloured T-shirts, black/navy blue shorts and trainers) in school on those days. It is also important that all of their kit                     (as well as the rest of their uniform) is clearly named.

I am sure you will soon be able to have the opportunity to visit secondary schools to help you make the right choice for your child’s next school. We will send out any information we get from the secondary schools, but also look at their websites to find out dates and times.

On Tuesday, 3rd September at 3pm, we will be having a ‘Meet the Teacher’ session. This will be in the classroom and will give us the chance to meet each other and for me to share with you the expectations for year 6.

Finally, I would like to thank you for your continued support as we work together to develop your children’s learning. I am very much looking forward to working with this class and helping them to enjoy their last year of Primary school so that they are confident and ready for the next step in their education. If you need to see me about anything, please come to the classroom any day after school. I hope we will all have a very happy and successful term.

                                           Yours faithfully,

                                               Barbara Smythe
