My name is Mrs Anna Whannell and I am our school SENCo (Special Educational Needs co-ordinator). As the SENCo, my responsibilities include indentifying and supporting children who have special educational needs (SEN) or additional educational needs (AEN). When a child is identified as having a specific need, they are entered onto our SEN or AEN register to ensure that they get the support they need. Parents are informed when children are added to either register. Additional provision is monitored and reviewed regularly. I work closely with class teachers, teaching assistants and outside agencies to ensure that children recieve the support they need in order to reach their potential. At St Mary's we provide a range of interventions which range from short term booster groups to long term support.(Please click on the intervention link below to see what they are.) This support is recorded on the class provision maps which teachers discuss at Parents' meetings. Children that are identified as having SEN support have a 'Personalised Plan' with individual targets which are reviewed with the child and their parents three times a year, as part of our 'Plan, Do, Review' cycle.
