2nd Oct 2009

What a fantastic week we have all had! Our Alien theme day was a huge success and the children all looked fabulous, so thank you to you all for all your hard work with the costumes! It was lovely to have all the parents and family in in the afternoon, and it was lovely to see the children reading and drawing with the grown ups!  I think the children deserve a big round of applause for their assembly, and as Mrs Keane said, they were very brave to be the first assembly of this year!

It was also another great day on Thursday for the 'Pass the Passion', and it was fantastic to see such a big turn out, both in the morning for the passing of the torch and at the autumn fair, which was a huge success!

During the day the children took part in many sport related activities, starting with a 'Wake up and Shake up' aerobic class lead by Mrs Keane, which got everybody moving and motivated for the day!  keystage 1 took part in multi-sports activities lead by the SSCO for area, which proved a success!

Next week the children will be investigating their senses, through Science and Literacy, so it will be a very multi- sensory week!

Next week we are really looking forward to our Alien theme day!! Don't forget Fancy dress on Weds 30th Sept.  Parents are welcome to come and join their class at 2.15 to read with them and see what they have been doing.  Our class assembly will follow at 3pm! See you there!

It focuses on five social and emotional aspects of learning: self-awareness, managing feelings, motivation, empathy and social skills. This term the theme is new Beginnings and helps children to recognise and deal with their feelings in a positive way, to learn from their experiences, recognising what they are good at. It helps children set themselves goals and recognise how their behaviour affects other people.

In Design and technology, we will link it to our topic about our alien freinds, planning and designing rockets to take them to space!

In art we will be exploring portraits and the importance of them through time, and as a twist they will create portraits of their aliens, exploring different colours they can create and different moods.

Physical Development

In PE the children will be doing dance this term.  Linking to our aliens theme, we will explore what it is like to go into space or to be an alien, exploring and creating different types of movement and dance, to an array of different music.

Knowledge & Understanding of the World cont...

In ICT children use graphics packages to explore and realise their ideas and to identify ways to develop and improve their work, creating aliens.  They will need to select and use simple tools (pen, brush, fill, and spray), and understand that work can be easily amended and ideas can be tried out without spoiling earlier versions. They will learn that sometimes  a screen version  is the final version of a piece of work.  they will also have the opportuntiy to create a simple animation.
