Week 1 - Explore the rock pools

Our story is Somebody Swallowed Stanley

Recap on doubles/halves

What happens if there are 3 people that are sharing the sweets?  How can we make it fair?  Work through examples with sweets.

Give children different examples of word problems including doubling/halving/sharing.

Children decide on an action for each of the words and they have to show the correct action for each problem.

Solve problems together, I usually use post it notes for this activity

Children make the underwater world that they see in their bucket, experimenting with a variety of techniques to make a watery world such as paint wash, and the use of cellopane and net.

Innovate & Express – Create an art exhibition! We would have been inviting parents in to see the beautiful seaside art we would have made.  Instead of that I am asking that you ask your parents to take some photos of the art you have made and send them to me at sian.goodwin@st-marys-deal.kent.sch.uk.  I can then make a blog post with all your lovely art work for us to all enjoy and share.

The story is a list of all the things they would do when they grow up, like eating sweets and staying up late.  Write a list of all the things you’d like to do if you were a grown up.

Write a letter to the grown up you asking if you have done any of the things you hope to do.

 

Maths

 

Children can;

Place them in order and say which number is one more or one less than a given number. Using quantities and objects, they add and subtract two single-digit numbers and count on or back to find the answer.

Estimates how many objects they can see and checks by counting them

 

I need 12 bricks to build a house. Do I have enough? How do you know?

Cut out different shapes. How many toys (e.g. plastic superheroes) do you think can fit into the circle? Will this be more or less than the triangle? Why do you think this? What will be difficult in this task? Do you have a strategy?

Have selection of bags for children to estimate – encourage children to use what they have learned to estimate each bag
