Autumn Term 2025
We have made a wonderful start to our learning in year 1!
In English, we learned stories such as Have you filled a bucket today, Grandad's Island and the Gingerbread Man. We have been focusing on remembering capital letters, finger spaces and full stops. We have also explored how to use adjectives to add description to our writing. We made Gingerbread people and then wrote about them. The naughty Gingerbreads went all over the place!
In term 2 we will be reading 'Float', using this as an inspiration to make a boat. The boat also goes on a journey where his dad helps him out at the end. Using time adverbials to organise our instructions. We will then go on to read an extract of paddington followed by The snow Dragon. Term 2 we will be really concentrating on our tricky words. Look out for them coming home to practice.
In Maths, we have been securing our understanding of place value to 10, addition within 10 and subtraction within 10. We have been practising our important number facts daily. Term 2, we will using this knowledge to add and subtract within 10.
In RE we have been talking about families, and being part of God's family. The catholic education has been updated and improved and we are now following a scheme called 'Lighting the path'. Term 2 will see us looking at the Birth of Jesus, who Mary said Yes and Luke's story.
In science, we have learned what happens as the seasons change from Summer to Autumn and from Autumn to Winter. We have had lots of fun with pumpkins, seeds, berries and going on a leaf hunt. More to come in term 2. We also found about the properties of every day materials. Term 2 will see more of material testing and looking what material is best to float a boat.
In History we have investigated about Toys Old and New, spoken about how toys were used in the past and how our guardians played with their toys. More to come this term as we look at timelines.
In D&T, we not only made Gingerbread men but we have designed and made Gingerbread puppets. We learnt how to staple, pin and sew things together. Term 2 we will finish them off and then review them.
We are looking forward to an exciting term 2 with the nativity and all our Christmas events to come.
