Reading & Homework

🌟 Year 4 Daily Reading Expectations 🌟

In Year 4, we believe that daily reading is an essential part of developing strong literacy skills and fostering a love for books. To support this, we kindly ask for your partnership in the following:

Daily Reading Routine

📖 We ask that students read daily for 10 - 20 minutes.

📖 Students can read either:

  • A school-provided book (sent home with them)
  • Or a book of their own choosing from home.

📖 Please discuss the way we read punctuation as well as words, how bold or italic words are read differently. Look for how advanced punctuation is used. For example, speech marks, brackets, commas, apostrophes etc. It is very important that adults discuss these things with their child as they are not likely to notice them on their own.

📖 Each student has been provided with a yellow reading record. This is where they should record their daily reading. Please help them by:

    • Writing down the title of the book and the pages read.

    • Adding a brief comment (e.g., "Enjoyed the story," "Practiced tricky words").
    • Signing the record to confirm that the reading was completed.

📅 Please ensure that the yellow reading record is brought into class every day. Teachers will review these to celebrate progress and provide additional support if needed.

    Why Daily Reading Matters

    Reading daily helps to:

    • Improve vocabulary and comprehension skills
    • Boost confidence in literacy
    • Build a lifelong love of learning

Thank you for your continued support in making reading a daily habit for your child. Together, we can help them achieve a love for literature!

If you have any questions or need further guidance, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

    Happy Reading! 📚

    Homework

Homework is set every Friday and is due in on Wednesday. Children have been given a purple homework to complete this in. On occasions, a "project" may be set. This will be to kick start the children's learning and it is entirely up to them how to present their work. It is amazing to see how creative they can be!
