Term 2 24-25 Blog

Autumn Term 2 (2024)

Reading: This term the children have been enjoying The Rabbit and Bear series of books.  We have used our detective reading skills to make predictions, discuss new vocabulary, infer meaning based on what we have read.  We have talked about the illustrations and how the characters have changed and built friendships with each other.  We have made lots of links to their previous learning on seasons from Year 1.  Do visit Deal Library and you can reserve these to read at home.
Writing:  We have read instructions and followed instructions and written instructions for the cookies that they baked linked to their D.T. learning.  They have written a recount based on their day at Forest School (in the rain!) and how they have learnt to whittle a stick!
Maths : We have continued our journey about numbers and place value and used lots of different manipulatives to partition numbers up to 100 in different ways.  Number bonds has been a focus for fluency along with talking about odd and even numbers.  We are now adding 2digit numbers together with no bridging and have just started to write inverse number sentences linked to their number bond knowledge.
Science : Lots of fun was had dissecting bulbs and looking at the different layers.  We have sorted things using the vocabulary of living, dead and never alive and thought about different habitats in our school area.  The whittle sticks that were made as part of Forest School were used to create a habitat for their ‘gnome’ to live in.
R.E: As part of our Advent topic we have thought about the different parts of The Nativity story and how Mary and Joseph may have felt along why Advent is such an important time with the Christian calendar.
History:  We have discovered all about two significant individuals who have changed the way hospitals are run today.  Do ask your child about Florence Nightingale and Edith Carvell.
D.T:  Balanced diet has lead our discussions and we have linked this to the meals that they eat both at home and school.  Lots of fun was had being the first class to use the new practical room to bake some cookies and then evaluate them.  They have lots of ideas about what they would like to cook next!
P.E: Dodgeball and gymnastics has been the focus.  They have balanced, jumped and linked physical elements together.  As part of this learning, they have been evaluating and giving feedback to their friends.
Music:  Singing has been our focus as you all heard when we performed ‘Whoopsy Daisy Angel’.  Everyone did an amazing job and I’m sure you all enjoyed the production.
Computing: They have been experimenting with the iPad to take photographs.  They have made decisions about whether landscape or portrait enables their picture to look best and experimented with distance and close up shots!
