Impact
The impact of our Geography curriculum is seen in the knowledge, skills, and understanding that pupils develop throughout their time at St. Mary’s. Students will:
- Develop strong geographical skills: Children will have the ability to analyse and interpret a variety of geographical information. They will be able to use tools like maps, graphs, and data sets to explore both physical and human geography.
- Understand human and physical geography: Pupils will gain a deep understanding of the world’s physical features (e.g., mountains, rivers, and ecosystems) as well as human geography (e.g., cities, population, and human activity). They will also be able to compare these aspects across different regions of the world.
- Appreciate the world around them: Geography education at St. Mary’s helps students develop a sense of place and belonging, fostering an appreciation for their local environment and its connection to the global community.
- Develop transferable skills: The geography curriculum promotes communication, teamwork, and critical thinking. Pupils develop important skills that will help them in other areas of learning and in their future lives.
Assessment of impact is ongoing, with pupil progress monitored through independent and group work. This includes reviewing the development of both geographical skills and content knowledge. Additionally, pupil feedback (via pupil voice) will help shape the future direction of our geography curriculum, ensuring that it remains engaging, relevant, and impactful for all learners at St. Mary’s.
