Term 4 24 - 25

Welcome to Term 4

Maths

We will be adding and subtracting with numbers that bridge ten.  Reading scales which links to our previous unit on weather from last term.  Naming 3D shapes and using mathematical language to describe their properties.

Writing

Writing about pirates will be our theme and we will be writing a losing tale.  Our focus will be on using precise vocabulary along with using well chosen adjective, verbs and adverbs to add impact.

Reading

‘The Indoor Pirates’ by Jeremy Strong will be our focus.  We will be making predictions, unpicking vocabulary, making inferences and summarising the plot.  World Book Day also takes places this term where we will be sharing their favourite books and authors.

We had lots of fun coming dressed as different characters for World Book Day along with learning a pirate poem for our assembly.

R.E.

The forty days of Lent is an opportunity for Christians to turn about from what is bad and to seek ways to do good by prayer and by doing something extra to prepare for the celebrate of Jesus’ Resurrection at Easter.

Science

All things plants is our focus.  What do they need to grow and are all seeds the same.  We will be investigating the best conditions for plants to survive!

Today we have taken part in an online science lesson.  We have had to investigate how we can make a waterproof cape for Little Red Riding Hood because she keeps getting wet when she is out and about!   We made a fabric sandwich and inside we used different materials.  We used card, oil pastels, glue stick, crayons, plastic and PVA glue.  Then we used a pipette to carefully drop 4ml of water onto the surface of our fabric.  This is what we found out.  The only material that was waterproof was the plastic one.

How can we make a waterproof cape for Red?

History

Why did Samuel Pepys bury his cheese?  We will be travelling back in time to discover what London was like a long time ago and how the Great Fire of London impacted the rebuilding of the City of London.

D.T.

We have had a change to our planning and have started our Moving Monster unit of learning all linked to mechanisms.

Today we have experimented with making sliders as part of our learning

Art

The children will be thinking about 3D structures and using clay to make house tile linked to their history learning.

Music

They will be clapping and playing different rhythms.  These skills will then be used to compose and record their own piece of music.

Computing

The beebots will be out as part of our computing lessons.  The children will be following instructions and planning their own routes.  They will be writing commands to move it forwards, backwards and with left and right turns.

R.S.E.

How can we stay safe both when we are out and about along with when we are online.
