Newsletter Autumn 1 2025 - What a wonderful World
English
We will be starting our learning by unpicking sentences to identify nouns, verbs and subjects. This will then be used to aid our writing of sentence that are grammatical correct and coherent. We will be using Handa's Surprise for our inspiration to write our own journey story later in the term. With our handwriting we are ensuring that the letters are formed correctly and that ascenders and descenders are the correct size.
Maths
Our learning this term will be linked to number facts, place value, greater than, less than and equal to. Time will also be spent to ensure that our numbers are written the correct way round. The children will be using stem sentences to explain how they have carried out any calculations.
Reading
A range of pictures books will be used to discuss who, where , what happens in stories as a class. The children will continue to read Little Wandle books matched to their phonic knowledge where we focus on decoding, reading with prosody and comprehension.
Science
This term the children will be building on their knowledge of materials from Year 1 and exploring how these are used in their everyday life. They will be deciding on why certain materials are used for specific purposes.
Religious Education
New beginnings is our theme and we will be thinking about the creation story and how God created the world in six days. Towards the end of the term we will begin our learning all about Baptism.
Art
This links with their map learning skills in geography and we will be created a 3D map linked to an imaginary place. We will use artists work for inspiration.
We shall also be developing our sketching skills and experimenting with different pencils.
Line drawings based on Handa's Surprise
Geography
We are off on an adventure around the oceans and continents and finding out how the equator impacts how hot or cold a place is. They will be exploring the atlas and using the contents and index pages to help locate different places.

How is ICT used in our everyday life? Out and about around the school the children will discover that computers are used for lots of different jobs.
