Term 5 Blog

🌟 What we’re looking forward to in Year 4! 🌟

Hi everyone!

It has been fantastic to see the amazing projects that have been coming in to kick start our Egyptian learning. It is so awesome seeing how creative the children can be and how enthusiastic they are about their learning. Thus far projects have included; Egyptian bread, models of pyramids, non-chronological reports, home made mummies and sarcophaguses, jewelry and Minecraft Egyptian lands. It certainly has been a fantastic start and I'm sure it will continue!

Here’s a sneak peek at all the amazing things we’ll be doing:

🌀 English – A Journey Through a Portal!
In English, we’ll be writing portal stories. Children will create a magical objects which takes their character to another world—maybe Ancient Egypt or even a land made of jelly! It’s going to be so much fun using our imagination!

This term, our class has been enjoying the wonderfully funny and heart warming story The Tale of Angelino Brown by David Almond.

The book follows a little angel named Angelino who unexpectedly appears. He’s tiny, cheerful, and full of surprises—especially when he starts to fart (yes, really!) As you can imagine, this has already caused a lot of giggles in the classroom.

But it’s not all fun and sweets—Angelino’s adventures take a dramatic turn when he’s kidnapped by some very bad bosses. The children have been on the edge of their seats wondering what will happen next, and we’ve had some great discussions about friendship, kindness, and what it really means to be ‘good’.

📝 Instructions – How to Mummify a Pharaoh
This term, Year 4 will be learning how to write clear and detailed instructions. One of the most exciting tasks will be writing a step-by-step guide on how to mummify a pharaoh! It might be a little messy and even a bit gross, but it will definitely be an unforgettable way to explore Ancient Egyptian traditions.

💰 Maths – Working with Decimals and Money
In Maths, the focus will be on decimals and money. Pupils will solve real-life problems, such as shopping and giving change, and may even set up a class shop to practise using coins and notes. It will be a great way to make maths fun and practical.

🕊️ RE – Celebrating Pentecost and the Sacrament of Reconciliation
In RE, the children will learn about Pentecost, when the Holy Spirit came upon the Apostles, filling them with courage and love. They will reflect on the importance of the Holy Spirit in the Church today. Later in the term, they will explore the Sacrament of Reconciliation, learning how Catholics say sorry to God and receive His forgiveness. The children will be encouraged to think about peace, forgiveness, and how they can live out Jesus’ teachings.

🏺 History – Exploring Ancient Egypt
Year 4 will journey back in time to explore the fascinating world of Ancient Egypt. They will learn about pharaohs, pyramids, gods, and life along the River Nile. From writing in hieroglyphics to discovering how and why the Egyptians mummified their dead, there will be plenty of hands-on history to enjoy.

🗺️ Geography – Comparing Two Places
In Geography, the children will compare the South East of England with the South Aegean region of Greece. They will explore differences and similarities in weather, landscapes, homes, and culture. This topic will help them understand more about the wider world and how people live in different environments.

It’s set to be a brilliant term, filled with exciting learning opportunities across every subject!
