π± Here’s a little look at what we’ll be learning in Spring Term 1! π±
π English
We’ll begin the term by finishing our class read The Train to Impossible Places, enjoying the final part of this exciting adventure. We’ll then move on to Sheep Pig, exploring characters and themes through guided reading. Our main writing focus will be The Firework Maker’s Daughter, where we’ll create exciting quest stories, thinking carefully about character, setting, and adventure. We’ll also develop our non-fiction skills by writing information texts inspired by Crystals and Jewels.
π’ Maths
This term, we’ll continue developing our multiplication and division skills, building confidence with known facts and problem-solving. We’ll then move on to length and perimeter, measuring, comparing, and calculating using practical resources.
βοΈ RE & RSE
In RE, we’ll explore Local Church – Community and Journeys, thinking about belonging and how communities support one another. We’ll then move on to Eucharist – Relating, focusing on listening and sharing, linking closely to our Poppy Class values of care and service.
π¬ Science
We’ll continue our learning on Animals Including Humans, deepening our understanding of how bodies work and what helps us stay healthy.
π» Computing
Our computing unit is Sequencing Sounds, where children will learn how to create simple programs that play sounds in a chosen order.
πΏ History
We’ll expand our learning from the Stone Age into the Bronze Age and Iron Age, discovering how life changed through new tools, technology, and settlements.
π¨ Art
Inspired by our history topic, we’ll explore Prehistoric Painting, experimenting with colour, texture, and pattern.
πΆ Music
In music, we’ll explore pentatonic melodies and composition, learning how to create and perform simple pieces of music.
β½ PE
This term’s PE focus includes hockey and multi-skills/speed stacking, helping us develop coordination, teamwork, and agility.
π«π· French
We’ll be learning numbers 0–20 and how to talk about age, practising our speaking and listening skills through games and songs.

Autumn Term 2
π Here’s a little look at what we’ll be learning in Autumn Term 2!
π English
We’ll explore poetry through weather-themed shape poems, then dive into The Stone Age Boy for fiction and write information texts about the Stone Age. We’ll also finish Bill’s New Frock and begin The Train to Impossible Places!
π’ Maths
We’ll build on our addition and subtraction skills before moving on to multiplication and division, learning our 3, 4 and 8 times tables with fun games and challenges.
βοΈ RE & RSE
We’ll complete Baptism and Belonging, then focus on Advent as we prepare for Christmas. In RSE, we’ll explore wellbeing, feelings and Bible parables about kindness and understanding.
π¬ Science
Our topic is Animals Including Humans – focusing on bones and movement, how our bodies work together to keep us strong and healthy.
πΏ History
We’re travelling back to the Stone Age, discovering how people lived, hunted and created tools during the Palaeolithic and Mesolithic eras.
π«π· French
We’ll learn classroom instructions and colours, practising our pronunciation through songs and games. C’est fantastique!
π Design & Technology
Our focus is Eating Seasonally – learning where food comes from and designing our own healthy savoury tarts using seasonal ingredients.
πΆ Music
We’ll explore singing and performance, learning Viking battle songs and how to use our voices expressively.
π» Computing
Our new unit is Stop Frame Animation, creating short animated clips using digital tools and teamwork.
π PE
We’ll keep building confidence in swimming, while also developing our skills in gymnastics and dodgeball through teamwork and fun challenges.
π² Forest School
We’ll enjoy more outdoor adventures, exploring nature and working together as the weather turns crisp and wintry!
π Christmas!
We’ll finish the term with festive fun, performances, crafts and plenty of Christmas cheer!
Autumn Term One
π Welcome to Class 3 – Poppy Class! π
Hello and welcome to our very first newsletter of the school year!
π¦πΊThis year we are Poppy Class, inspired by Poppy the PΕpokotea, our Catholic Social Teaching animal. Poppy reminds us of our call to “Option for the Poor” – putting those most in need first. Throughout the year, we’ll look for lots of ways to live this out in our learning and daily actions: showing kindness, generosity, and fairness to others.π¦πΊ
Here’s a little look at what we’ll be learning in Autumn Term 1:
π English
We’ll begin with a PVPG refresher (place value punctuation and grammar) before moving on to instructions with How to Wash a Woolly Mammoth. We’ll also enjoy handwriting bootcamp, flash writes, and our class text Bill’s New Frock.
π’ Maths
We’ll dive into place value up to the thousands, exploring partitioning and representation of numbers. Towards the end of term, we’ll revisit addition and subtraction to prepare us for next term’s trickier challenges.
βοΈ RE & RSE
Our RE focus is on Homes and Families, then Baptism and Belonging. In RSE, we’ll continue the Ten Ten programme, learning about emotions, relationships, and how each of us is uniquely loved by God.
π¬ Science
We’ll become geologists, exploring rocks, soils, and fossils through hands-on investigations.
π Geography
We’re starting with our very own country, the UK – discovering its countries, capitals, and key landmarks.
π» Computing
Our unit is Connecting Computers. We’ll explore what digital devices are, how they connect, and how to stay safe online.
π¨ Art
We’ll develop our sketching and shading skills, taking inspiration from natural forms like plants and fruit.
πΆ Music
This term’s focus is Ballads – learning how music can tell stories.
π PE
Swimming, bench ball, and gymnastics will keep us active, coordinated, and confident.
π² Forest School
Our first session will explore insects and habitats – with the bonus of marshmallows round the firepit!
π° Trip
We’ll finish the term with an exciting visit to Hampton Court Palace, stepping into Tudor history.
It’s going to be a brilliant start to our year together – full of learning, discovery, and living out our Poppy Class values.
